Being sustainable is a huge focus for us at Cece & Bear. We're passionate about trying to protect our planet so that our children may live with the freedom that we have always known. Producing and buying responsibly is one of the ways we can all contribute to this.

Conscious Decisions

Since becoming a mother in 2018 I have become so much more conscious in the decisions I make that effect the future of our planet and the world they will grow up in. I'm sure many of you feel the same. Since this time the reality of the climate change problem is becoming far more apparent and we all clearly need to take actions to contribute to a more successful outcome.

I encourage you to buy what you need and know you will use for many years to come. Textile waste is a huge growing problem, 92 billion items of clothing a year are made and approximately 90% is apparently sent to landfill each year.

Slow Production

I make everything myself by hand and use electric machinery as little as possible. I prioritise renewable energy sources. You'll notice the timeless nature of the range means it is tweaked a little each year rather than a new look each time. Changing constantly is unsustainable, it means waste and discounting to encourage purchasing, which I never do.

Quality Always

The quality of my items is of utmost importance to me and I hope that all I make will last for many years.  I use high quality Liberty Tana Lawn and European Linens for Sacks which are fully lined in a weighty linen cotton blend fabric. My pieces are robust and will stand the test of time. Customers often feedback that the quality was far better than anticipated, which is so lovely to hear!

Material Choices

Did you know that fabric choices is one of the most important when it comes to sustainable choices?

I'll admit I do still use a polyester velvet, although it is high quality I haven't yet found a cotton alternative that competes on quality and price. I am continually looking for alternatives. As much as recycled materials are a great way to utilise the plastics of the past, in our eyes sustainability has to be circular and infinite. That's why we try to source natural materials that when unwanted will degrade without negative traces.

Liberty Tana Lawn

GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

Linen Fabric

Linen is one of the most sustainable fabrics known to man. There are many reasons why linen fabric is eco friendly. The majority of clothes we wear today are either man made or very chemically intensive to produce. Linen is made from flax plants, which grow without fertilizers or pesticides, it's a fast growing renewable resource, pulling carbon from the atmosphere. As well as this it is biodegradable, strong, so suitable for holding weight and requires much less water than cotton to grow and utilises the whole plant so the waste is extremely minimal.

Talking of waste I try to minimise as much as possible. The pieces I make are partly chosen in order to put all of the waste fabric to use, like stockings and smaller sack sizes, the way they are made varies sometimes in order to make use of the different fabric widths. All offcuts are put to use or sold on to crafters for small projects. Scraps are recycled properly.

Thankyou

I hope that you agree I make many efforts to ensure what I create has a minimal impact, you can do your part too by buying pre loved items and sustainably made items to gift inside your stockings and sacks.
